Orange County School Guide

Public Schools

Orange County residents are served by schools within the Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) system. This forward-moving system proudly boasts its third consecutive year of receiving a grade of “A” by the Florida Department of Education. Also well worth noting is that 142 of the schools within this system achieved an “A” or “B” “high performing” grade during school year 2009-2010. Another bragging point is that 13 of the high schools here were named in Newsweek Magazine’s list of top high schools in the entire country! It is impossible to pinpoint just one driving force behind these prestigious rankings, as so many factors come together to make this system such a success. First, we could mention the professional development each staff and faculty member is continually encouraged to pursue. Then we could note the awarding to the district leader of the 2011 Superintendent of the Year by the Florida Association of District School Superintendents; this certainly doesn’t come unwarranted or undeserved. Maybe then we could talk about the awesome amount of parental involvement, the wonderful volunteers and the supportive local community businesses that all do their part in ensuring quality education in each of the facilities within OCPS. Together, all of these parts make a successful whole from which every student is invited to benefit.
