Welcome to Osceola County, one of the most picturesque counties in Florida! With its warm climate, miles of protected wildlands, a dozen pristine golf courses, and easy access to beaches on both the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico, Osceola County is an outdoorsman’s dream come true. Sure, these wonderful attributes make it one of the world’s greatest vacation destinations, but they also make it a wonderful place to call home! It would be impossible for us to list all of the activities, parks, and events available that make Osceola County the county of choice. History and Geography
Founded in 1887, Osceola County was named after the Seminole Indian leader Chief Osceola. The county was created from a section of Orange County and a section of Brevard County. Osceola County originally extended southward to Lake Okeechobee until 1917, when Okeechobee County was established utilizing the southernmost portion of Osceola. Today Osceola County serves as the south/central boundary of the Central Florida Region. The county seat of Osceola is the City of Kissimmee. Also part of Osceola is the City of St. Cloud. The Kissimmee River runs along the western border of Osceola, and the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes runs through the county, where some of the state’s greatest fishing opportunities await.
